Brent Parmer, M.S.
Associate Director of Fitness Programs

Brent ParmerAs a 1996 graduate of NDSU, Brent earned a degree in Corporate and Community Fitness with a health and coaching minor. He went on to receive a Master's degree in Human Performance/Exercise Physiology from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in December of 1997. Brent was an Exercise and Sports Physiologist at MeritCare Sports Medicine for three years before coming to NDSU in June of 2001.

During Brent's career, he has performed fitness assessments, written exercise programs and has been a personal trainer to all kinds of individuals with wide ranges of abilities. Brent has also been active in helping the men's and women's track and field programs at NDSU, serving as the Long Jump/Triple Jump coach. He was a seven-time All-American for the Bison in the jumps and sprints from 1992-1995. Brent is currently working toward his doctorate in Human Development at NDSU.

Tara Roberts, B.S.  
Coordinator of Fitness and Training

Tara RobertsAs a 2002 graduate of St. Cloud State University, Tara earned a degree in Exercise Science. She went on to specialize in Aquatics and Post Rehab Conditioning. Tara worked as the Aquatics Rehabilitation Director for the Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN and as a Post Rehab Specialist/Personal Trainer for Gold's Gym in Sartell, MN prior to coming to NDSU in August of 2005.

During Tara's career, she has conducted many fitness assessments, and written a variety of fitness/rehabilitation programs for both land and H2O! Tara enjoys working as part of a team, creating a higher quality of life for others through health and wellness.

Kim Yager
Graduate Assistant
for Fitness Programs

Kim YagerKim is a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead, in her second year of graduate school at NDSU in Sport and Recreation Management.

Her certifications include Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM-PES), Group Exercies Instrucrtor (NETA), Certified Pilates Instructor (FiTour), and she is certified in both First Aid and CPR. She holds professional memberships with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association (GLATA), Minnesota Athletic Trainers Association (MATA), and the national Intramural-Recreational Sports Assocation (NIRSA).

Kim is interested in getting and keeping her clients motivated and excited about their health and wellbeing through a variety of training and techniques. She is also interested in sport specific training off athletes.

Her favorite quote is "Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around, so be the change you want to be."

Ashley Brixius
Graduate Assistant

Ashley BrixiusAshley is in enrolled in the Athletic Training Masters Program with an undergradutate degree in Exercise Science. Her previous work experience includes an internship at the Orthopedic Sports Center in St. Cloud, MN, and training high school students in strength conditioning. She plans to be an athletic trainer.

Vanessa Imdieke
Student Coordinator


Vanessa ImdiekeVanessa is a senior, majoring in Dietetics with plans to go to graduate school in Exercise Science. She has been around physical fitness almost her entire life from participating in athletics, to the military, in which she is still currently active. She is preparing for certification as a personal trainer through the American Council of Exercise (ACE). Vanessa is certified in CPR and First Aid and is a certified member of ADA and SDA. Vanessa feels strongly about weight training and the importance it plays in weight loss and feels that a healthy diet and exercise is the perfect combination to aid in weight loss and muscle gain.

A quote that Vanessa passes on to her clients is, "Above all, challenge yourself. You may surprise yourself at what strengths you have and what you can accomplish."

Chris Schmaltz

Chris is a senior at NDSU majoring in Human Performance and Fitness. In the past, Chris has been a Frappier Acceleration trainer in Rugby, ND. He has also been a personal trainer for Anytime Fitness. He enjoys working with clients and motivating them to achieve their goals.

After finishing his undergraduate degree, Chris plans to furtheg his education in dental school. He also hopes to stay involved in sports activities and coaching youth.

Chris enjoys lifing and is a huge fan of the Minnesota Vikings. Some of his favorite quotes are " Everyone who got where he is had to begin where he was." Tressa Kurtz

Tressa Kurtz
Tressa is a junior majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Business. She is interested in the areas of kid's fitness and the growing problem of childhood obesity. She has worked with children at TNT Kid's Fitness and Gymnastics Academy as a fitness instructor. She is certified in CPR and First Aid.

After graduation, Tressa plans to work with children of all ages and help them grow into healthy and happy adults with the knowledge to stay that way. Her favorite inspriational quote is "If you don't do what's best for your body, you're the one who comes up on the short end." - Julius Erving

John Honl (Junior Fitness Specialist)

j_honlJohn is a junior in the Human Performance and Fitness and Sports Managment. This is his first year as a fitness specialist.

John is interested in all areas of personal wellness. After graduation he would like to pursue a career as a wellness facility director or in a management position.

One of John's favorite quotes is "Do not tell me what you are going to do, but show me what you have done."

Jesse Dunn ( Junior Fitness Specialist)

Jesse DunnJesse is a Human Performance and Fitness and Psychology major. She is a Wallman Wellness Center certified personal trainer and as her ASEP Coaching certification.

Jesse played volleyball, basketball and soccer in high school and coached elementary and middle school athletics. After college she hopes to get a Masters in Sport Psychology work with elite athletes.

Her attitude is reflected in this quote from Lao Tzu, "A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say 'We did it ourselves.'"

Nick Kindelspire (Fitness Specialist)

Nick KindelspireNick is majoring in Athletic Training and wants to work with injury prevention and management. He is a Certified Professional Rescuer. His minor is Spanish. His hobbies include fishing, sports and riding his bike.

John Tacheny (Fitness Specialist)

j_tachenyJohn is a Sophomore majoring in Human Performance and Fitness. His minor is Business. He is certified in CPR and First Aid. He enjoys weight lifting and basketball. After graduation, John's goal is to own his own gym or manage a chain of work-out centers in California.

Chris HoffarthChris is a junior majoring in Athletic Training. His areas of interest are endurance training, powerlifting and bodybuilding. After graduation, Chris plans to enroll in the Physician Assistant program at Augsburg College.

Lucas Odegard (Freshman Fitness Specialist)

Lucas OdegardLucas is majoring in Exercise Science and Business Administration. He is CPR certified and his area of interest is Personal Training. After graduation, he hopes to open his own fitness center.

Lucas' favorite quote is "The will to prepare to win is greater than the will to win; for the will to win is worthless if you do not have the will to prepare to win."

Mychael Ruud (Junior Fitness Specialist)

Mychael RuudMike is a junior majoring in Community Sports with a minor in Coaching. He is a member of AAPHERD and certified in CPR, rock wall and power plate. Mike enjoys being around students, and after graduation he hopes to work in a Parks and Recreation or coaching at the college level. He would also like to be a stay at home dad.

John Logeais (Sophomore Fitness Specialist)

John LogeaisJohn is a Sophomore majoring in Human Performance and Fitness. He is interested in the field of Physical Therapy. He is CPR/AED certified. After graduation John hopes to pursue a career in physical therapy or post-rehab training.

John's favorite piece of advice is: the difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength or a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will.

Kimberly Stangl (Sophomore Fitness Specialist)

Kim StanglKim is a second year student majoring in Exercise Science and Dietetics. She is certified in CPR and First Aid.

Kim grew up on a farm and is interested in nutrition and exercise psychology. Her post graduation plans are stiill open, but she wants to pursue a career in the health and fitness field.

Kim's favorite quote is "Regret for wasted time is just more wasted time."

Andy Koch (Junior Fitness Specialist)

Andy KochAndy is a junior majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching. His area of interest is in Personal Training and Group Exercise.

After graduation he plans to move to a warmer climate and open an exercise facility and/or work with athletes.

Angela is interested in the areas of weight loss, resistance training and sports conditioning. After graduation she would like to continue with grad school and traveling to learn about different cultures.

Nick Wagner (Junior Fitness Specialist)

Nick WagnerNick is an Exercise Science major with a minor in Psychology. He is a NETA certified Group Exercise Instructor, a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and is CPR/First Aid certified. He has worked as an assistant strengtha nd condition coach at West Fargo High School.

Nick's areas of interest are promoting the benefits of exercise and being active. After graduation he would like to go to grad school and/or help companies implement their fitness programs.

Jamie Werre (Freshman Fitness Specialist)

Jamie WerreJamie is a Freshman majoring in Exercise Science. She is certified in CPR/First Aid. Her area of interest is Personal Training, a field she plans to work in after graduation.

Justin Hoefer (Sophomore Fitness Specialist)

Justin HoeferJustin is a sophomore majoring in Exercise Science and Pre-Med. He is First Aid/CPR/AED certified. His area of interest is strength and conditioning. After graduation, Justin hopes to go to medical school.

Brad Ogle (Junior Fitness Specialist)

Brad OgleBrad is a junior majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Business Administration. He is CPR, First Responder, Evaluation certified. His areas of interest are cardiac rehab and strength and conditioning training. Brad plans to intern at Lifetime Fitness, and clinically for Cardiac Rehab.

Jessica Mack (Sophomore Fitness Specialist)

Jessica MackJessica is a sophomore majoring in Exercise Science and Pre-Physical Therapy. She is interested in helping people lead healthier lives. After graduation, Jessica plans to attend Physical Therapy school.

Adam Krueger (Junior Fitness Specialist)

adam kruegerAdam is a junior majoring in Exercise Science. He is a NESTA Certified Personal Trainer and a Group Exercise Instructor, a member of USA Triathlon and is SPINN® certified.

He gained valuable experience doing physical fitness testing for the Air National Guard and instructing Spinning classes while serving in Iraq! During his time with the Wallman Wellness Center has taught classes such as Cardio Mix, Spinning, and Kickboxing.

After graduation, Adam plans to train with professional and Olympic endurance athletes. His favorite quote is "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." - Steve Prefontaine
