Who are the Wellness Education Leaders?
The Wellness Education Leaders (WELs) are a group of NDSU students who work together to promote wellness by increasing awareness of student health issues and encouraging positive lifestyle choices and decision-making skills through peer education.

WELs Responsibilities

  • Attend Peer Educator Training
  • Attend weekly meetings (Meeting time to be determined by WELs schedules)
  • Attend additional meetings and training as needed
  • Develop, promote and present health education programs and activities on campus
  • Serve as health education resource to NDSU students
  • Assist in planning and implementing the NDSU Health Fair
  • Participate in fundraising efforts to support group activities
  • Complete assignments as directed
  • Assist in evaluation of health education programs and activities
  • Help recruit future WELs
  • Attend monthly CSO meeting (at least one WELs member)
  • Complete required CSO paperwork as needed

What will I gain as a Wellness Education Leader?

  • Training as a Peer Educator
  • Develop communication, leadership and organization skills
  • Increased public speaking and promotion skills
  • Gain knowledge in several areas of health and wellness (ex: HIV/AIDS, STI's,
    alcohol, tobacco, stress management, etc.)

What is the time committment expected of a Wellness Education Leader?

WELs must commit to work during the academic year. WELs will be required to attend a certified peer education training before school starts in the fall and attend weekly meetings. WELs will work approximately 2 - 4 hours per week as determined by projects, meetings, training and office hours.

Who may apply?

New applicants must be NDSU students who will attend fall and spring semesters of the 2008-2009 academic year. Students should be have the ability to work as a team and independently and be able to manage time and stress well. Experience in public speaking, program planning, and leadership roles helpful, but not necessary. Anyone interested in educating the NDSU community on issues related to health and wellness may apply. All majors accepted.

The application process

Applications are due in April 2008 for the 2008-2009 Wellness Education Leaders. All applications will be considered, and chosen applicants will be interviewed. New WELs will be announced after all interviews are completed in the spring.
